Schools have too many systems and too few answers.
A typical school keeps attendance in one system, the timetable in another and assessment records in a third. Behaviour logs live in a spreadsheet, parent messages go through a separate portal, and statutory returns are assembled by hand from all of them.
The result is duplicate data entry, figures that disagree with each other and hours of administration for teachers and office staff every week. A teacher who wants one picture of a pupil, with attendance, pastoral notes and results together, often has to ask three colleagues. Leadership meets the same problem at a larger scale when producing data for governors, inspection or DfE submissions.
The problem is not a shortage of software. It is software that does not communicate: systems bought over years, from different vendors, each with its own data model. Mosaic is built to remove that fragmentation.
An MIS that works for teachers.
Most management information systems are designed for the office and tolerated by the classroom. Mosaic treats both as first-class users.

Mosaic Assist, if you want it
It can draft report comments, summarise a pupil’s record and point out patterns worth a closer look. It is optional: the teacher edits and approves every draft, and every decision, including every mark, stays with the teacher.
One platform, end to end.
The modules share one data model, so a fact recorded once is available wherever it is needed: no exports, no reconciliation, no re-keying.
Mosaic is a full MIS, not a point tool. Beside these modules it covers admissions, student records, staff records and the single central record, groups, classes and curriculum, statutory returns (School Census), the Common Transfer File, a teacher workspace for planning, and a public API.
Every user sees what their role requires and nothing more, under one login: teachers their own classes and pastoral groups, senior leaders school-wide analysis, the office its administration, parents only their own children. Heads of year, the SENCO, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, governors and students have roles too.

Timetabling and cover
The timetable is built and run in the same system that holds attendance and assessment: classes, sets and rooms, Week A/B patterns, curriculum structure, and same-day cover requests with clash checking.

Attendance and absence
AM/PM and lesson registers with the full set of DfE statutory codes, persistent-absence flags, alerts to guardians on missing marks and follow-up, and attendance analysis from live data.

Assessment and progress
Marksheets, formative tracking and question-level analysis. Progress 8, Attainment 8 and subject value-added, attainment-gap views and flightpath checkpoints, for teachers and leaders from the same data.

Behaviour, pastoral and safeguarding
Incidents, rewards, detentions and report cards beside a complete pastoral chronology for each pupil. Safeguarding records sit in a separate store, locked to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and designated staff.

Examinations and reporting
Exam series, candidate entries, sittings, seating plans and results. Parent report cards with comment banks and PDF output, governor reports and a custom report writer.

Parents, communication and payments
Messaging with read receipts, a parent portal and parents’ evening booking. Cashless payments for meals, clubs and trips, with consent and registers in the same system.
One trust, every school, one view.
Trust leaders get aggregate attendance, attainment and behaviour across every school in the trust, with each school’s day-to-day autonomy kept underneath. Schools can be compared with one another without forcing uniformity on any of them.

Small-number suppression
Cohorts of fewer than five pupils are withheld so that no individual can be re-identified, in line with the ICO Children’s Code.

Built for children’s data, from the ground up.
Schools hold some of the most sensitive data there is: information about children, welfare records and safeguarding notes. Mosaic is designed so that every decision holds up under UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the ICO Children’s Code; when in doubt, the stricter reading wins.
You choose where it runs: managed cloud, a dedicated UK-hosted instance for tenders that require data residency, or fully on-premise on the school’s own server. It is the same platform either way.
Mosaic holds no certification yet. Security accreditation, including Cyber Essentials Plus and independent penetration testing, is part of our route to general release.

Special-category data encrypted
Safeguarding, SEND, medical and similar fields are encrypted in the application, so a database dump never shows them in plain text.

Tamper-evident audit log
Access to personal data is recorded in an append-only, hash-chained log that staff cannot alter or delete.

Access by role
Permissions throughout, with safeguarding isolation enforced as a rule of the architecture rather than a setting.

Tested backups
Automated off-disk backups with point-in-time recovery and regular restore drills, not a backup job that has never been tried.
